Key Project

Kabuhayan Sewing Project

The Kabuhayan Livelihood Project is a sewing project established in selected barangays in Pasig City with the purpose of encouraging self-reliance and productivity with trainees sewing school uniforms. This project was founded in 2001 with three (3) pilot barangays, namely: Barangays Santolan, Sta.Lucia and Kalawaan. In 2003, Bgy. Rosario Kabuhayan Center was established. In 2004, Bgy. San Joaquin Kabuhayan Center was set up. In 2005, Bgys. Rosario and LPLU Pasig Satellite Center in Bgy. Pinagbuhatan was launched.

In view of the thrust of the City Government of Pasig and in line with Pasig Livelihood Foundation's mission of encouraging income generation thereby improving the economic conditions of the residents of Pasig, the goal of the project is to provide opportunities through skills training and various livelihood activities.

The Kabuhayan Livelihood Center structure is provided by City Government operated and maintained by baragay. Tools, equipment and materials for the training are initially provided by the Pasig Livelihood Foundation. After the Kabuhayan Project has become income generating, the barangay concerned pays the cost of the tools, equipment and materials on installment basis, while the rest of the profit that the barangay derives from the sewing projects is considered as barangay livelihood fund and can be used by the latter for its livelihood activities.

A Kabuhayan Trainor from the Pasig Livelihood Foundation is in charge of the training proper. Training period is six (6) months for sewing. Three (3) months is allotted for theories and the remaining three (3) months is spent on actual hands-on operation of the machines.
